Officials: State Parks Has Millions Hidden in Secret Surplus

Posted: Updated:

SACRAMENTO, Calif- Apparently the California State parks system has $54 million secretly hidden, state officials announced Friday. The department's director, Ruth Coleman,  has resigned, and her second in command was fired after the hidden money was discovered, reported the LA Times.

State officials said that the parks department has underreported million of dollars over the past few years.

According to the LA Times Blog, "The announcement means the department has plenty of cash, even though it has been soliciting hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations in what was thought to be a desperate scramble to keep parks open."
