CARMEL, Calif.- The suspected gunman who opened fire during the midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colorado, killing 12 people and wounding 58 others, has family members who live on the Central Coast.
24-year-old James Holmes' two family members live on the Central Coast, one in Santa Cruz, the other in Carmel.
Central Coast News spoke with the suspect's uncle off Camera in Carmel about what kind of person his nephew is.
James Holmes, who shares the same name with his nephew who he calls Jimmy, got the phone call Friday morning, thinking it was a prank. He tells Central Coast News, he immediately called his brother, Jimmy's father, and thought at first Jimmy was a victim of the terrible shooting, but then learned his nephew was the suspect.
Holmes said his nephew never showed signs of aggression or violence and said Jimmy was always a good kid and the whole family is in shock.
