Lompoc Coach Accused of Having Sex With Players Makes Court Appearance

Posted: Updated:

LOMPOC, Calif.- The Lompoc man accused of having sex with at least two of the girls he was supposed to be coaching was back in court for an arraignment Tuesday.

Facing multiple sex charges, a newly clean-cut 24-year-old Jonathan Terrones faced a judge in Lompoc to enter a plea. For the second time his public defender, Giovanni Giordani, asked Judge James Iwasco to push the arraignment another month. Judge Iwasco granted that request.

His day in court didn't end there. Fifteen minutes after Terrones left the courtroom, Gary Dunlap, a Las Vegas attorney, told the judge he was just hired by the Terrones family to represent Jonathan.

Terrones is accused of multiple sex crimes against two underage girls he coached on a club softball team, one under 16 and the other younger than 14.

Last Monday, after receiving a tip, Lompoc Police investigated the allegations and arrested Terrones two days later at his home.

The Police Department said the sexual assaults occurred more than two years ago, but won't say anymore.

A preliminary hearing for Terrones is expected to set at his next court appearance in August. Bail, which was set at $200,000 at his first court appearance last week, remains at $200,000.
