Woman Accused of Killing Step Son Appears in Court

Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- The woman accused of killing her step son was in court Wednesday for her pre-preliminary hearing.  Gina Mayborns Attorney Earl Conaway said in no way is this a murder case. Reports have recently been released of what happened the night of the shooting. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office reports said Douglas Chadwick, Gina Mayborns husband told sheriffs deputies that his step son, Joseph Cochran was threatening to kill he and his wife Gina.

Cochran then was said, to have thrown a shovel at Chadwick barely missing him by 2-feet. That's when Mayborn opened the window from the house, pushed the screen out and pointed the gun at Cochran, warning him to stop or she would shoot. She then made this statement "in a moment of clarity, I just knew that Cochran was going to kill my husband." That's when she shot Cochran in the neck, describing herself as a good shot and that she tried to shoot cochran in the right shoulder.

Mayborn said this had been a long time coming and that her and her husband have received threats before from Cochran, none are on record. Mayborn will be back in court August 13th for another pre-preliminary where more evidence for both sides should be collected.
