SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. -- Santa Barbara County has been awarded the last chunk of funding necessary to begin construction on a new north county jail.
The Board of State and Community Corrections authorized the additional 20 million today giving Santa Barbara County the full 80 million dollars it requested for the construction of the jail.
Next it will go to the Debt Advisory Committee and then to the County Board of Supervisors for their decision.
Santa Barbara County officials say the jail is needed because the south county main jail and attached security facility is "very overcrowded."
