Pioneer Valley High School Coach Neil Reed Dies at 36

NIPOMO, Calif.- The golf and basketball coach from Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria has passed away.

Officials say Neil Reed passed away Thursday at his home in Nipomo suddenly from a heart attack.

Reed is famous for being the former Indiana University basketball player who was choked by former head coach Bobby Knight in 1997. The incident was caught on tape and lead to the eventual dismissal of Knight from the University.

Reed was 36 years old.
