SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Border Patrol tells Central Coast News nearly $10 million worth of marijuana was found and 13 men were arrested after agents found a panga boat Thursday morning off the Santa Barbara Coast.
Agents say the Mexican panga-style boat was loaded with about 300 bales, totaling more than 6,000 pounds of marijuana.
A number of agents including the Border Patrol, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's, SWAT team, along with a helicopter, was able to arrest the men. Eight of the suspects are from Mexico, one from El Salvador and four are from the US.
The 27-foot boat was found around 1:30am Thursday morning near El Capitan State Beach and Refugio State Beach.
It was first spotted by state parks officials.
