SANTA MARIA, Calif.- A slow-speed police chase through Santa Maria has ended with a man dead after multiple shots were fired.
Around 9 p.m. a woman called 911 to say that she was threatened by a man with a gun on the 200 block of Broadway Avenue.
A sheriff's sergeant was in the area and spotted the suspect at a gas station. The suspect told the sergeant that he was armed and that he had more guns in his car, said the sheriff's department.
After that the suspect got back in his car and led the Sergeant on a low speed chase through the city of Santa Maria. The suspect stopped his car at the north end of Preisker Lane and threw some of his guns out of the window, said deputies.
A few moments later the suspect got out of his car, picked up a gun, and confronted the officer who were chasing him, said deputies. After that shots were fired and the suspect was killed. The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office will handle the investigation as detectives determine the circumstances of the incident, including how many shots were fired and by whom.
