SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif -- A car fire sparked a vegetation fire in steep terrain northwest of Paso Robles. Cal fire crews are still on the scene of the fire in the hills near Lake Nacimiento. They will be there overnight making sure this fire doesn't spread.
It started about 2:30 this afternoon. Investigators think the car fire that started it was caused by a mechanical problem. The flames quickly spread to about 6 acres.
This is peak fire season and fire fighters say this area known as Godfrey Grade is prone to fire and difficult for fire crews to access because of the rugged terrain.
Nacimiento Lake Drive was closed from Chimney rock to Heritage Ranch while crews worked on the ground to put out remaining hot spots and helicopters attacked from the air.
Cal Fire says the fire is no longer spreading. Crews expect to be working this fire at least until midnight and some crews will remain on scene overnight to make sure it doesn't start up again.
