SANTA MARIA, Calif. - At least a dozen vehicles burned in Santa Maria this evening, sending black plumes of smoke across the city.
About 125-feet of the Hancock Apartment complex's car port was also engulfed in the flames, and the fire extended to a couple structures to the north.
Witnesses tell Central Coast News they could hear cars melting and popping from the heat.
One person said they could smell the smoke on the other side of the city.
Investigators don't have a cause yet and there are no confirmed injuries.
