SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- Cal Poly's Director of Athletics has announced Assistant Football Coach, Randy Hanson has been suspended from the team. This comes just two days before Hanson was arrested at a bar in Pismo Beach.
At 1:45 Saturday morning, officers were called to Harry's Bar in Pismo Beach and found a man with a bloody nose and shirt and later identified Hanson as the suspect.
"Through investigation it was discovered Mr. Hanson allegedly hit the subject in the face with a beer bottle that was not broken at the time," says Commander Jake Miller, from Pismo Beach Police. Officials say Hanson actually showed up to the bar at the beginning of the night with the man he allegedly hit in the face.
This wasn't Hanson's first scuffle. In 2009, Hanson worked as an assistant coach for the Oakland Raiders. Hanson accused Head Coach Tom Cable of punching him and breaking his jaw during a disagreement at a coaches meeting. Hanson sued Cable but prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to win the case. Hanson left after that season.
This will be the first season at Cal Poly for Hanson. Police say the victim told them Hanson was the one who hit him. He is being charged for assault with a deadly weapon.
