SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- The San Luis Obispo City Council has voted 4-to-1 against the ordinance that prohibits homeless sleeping in their cars overnight.
Attorneys Stew Jenkins and Saro Rizzo filed a lawsuit on behalf of a group of homeless people who have been ticketed and have had their cars and RVs towed. They say the city's ordinance does not apply to city streets and is being applied unfairly to the homeless.
The San Luis Obispo City Council has voted against the ordinance, which means those who have been ticketed or cited since January will see those tickets dismissed. The court issued an injunction that would stop enforcing the anti-camping ordinance on public streets.
