PASO ROBLES, Calif- Police and Sheriff's in San Luis Obispo County say they are seeing an influx of gang members spilling into the area from Monterey County, and Paso Robles is getting hit the hardest.
Paso Robles Police say within the last couple years the increased gang activity has become more and more obvious. "We have seen some increased activity from the gangs that are traditionally north of us in Monterey County, from King City, Greenfield, even as far as Salinas," says Lt. Ty Lewis from the Paso Robles Police Department.
In San Luis Obispo County there are already 11 gangs and 12-hundred documented gang members. Paso Robles is seeing a couple of gangs move it's base from Monterey County to Paso Robles. One example, a recent drive by shooting at J&J liquor store, police say was gang related.
Jose De Jesus Hernandez Jr. is a person of interest and Paso Police are still on the search. "We believe that he is likely in Monterey county, so there again we are working with our partners north of us to hopefully find Mr. Hernandez," says Lt. Lewis.
Paso Robles has partnered with SLO Sheriff's Gang Task Force to help suppress the growing gang activity.
