Fires Burning Across California Prompts Statewide Burn Ban

Posted: Updated:

SACRAMENTO, Calif- About a dozen wildfires are burning across the state and CAL FIRE says weather conditions are uping the fire danger. As a result CAL FIRE says it is suspending all burning permits and has issued a statewide burn ban.

"Over 8,000 CAL FIRE, local and federal firefighters are on the frontlines of  nearly a dozen major wildfires that are burning across California," said Chief Ken Pimlott, CAL FIRE Director. "With conditions being so dry, we need to take every step possible to prevent new wildfires from starting."

According to CAL FIRE officials, the last two years have been relatively light for wildfires due in part to favorable weather patterns, but this year California has experienced an increase in fires statewide.

Nearly 95% of all wildland fires within CAL FIRE's jurisdiction are caused by people. For more Fire Safety and Prevention Tips, click here.
