Social Media Helps Police Make Arrests

Posted: Updated:

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara sheriffs say social media is an important tool that helps them capture criminals.  They say programs like our Manhunt Monday program are vital for them to get the word out.

"Social media is giving us an extra tool to fight crime and get information that people would other wise not be willing to give to law enforcement and also helps people to be anonymous if they choose to be, " said Sergeant Mark Williams of the Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Department.   "It is a big help especially in these tough budget times."

Most recently, 33-year-old Anthony Rodriguez, who also goes by the name Ernie Enriquez, was captures in Santa Barbara County and is now in custody.  He was featured on our Manhunt Monday program on August 6th.  Officers say they were able to make this arrest because of viewers who saw them on our newscast and web site.
