SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- Bill Bouton is a bird photographer and was hoping to get some great shots of birds along the coast of San Luis Obispo and not whales. However, "after a disappointing day of bird photography" Bouton was left with these photos of a humpback whale as a consolation prize.
"I was literally on my way home from having a fairly unsuccessful day from testing out a new lens and I just stopped on a whim and stumbled onto this," says Bouton, a retired biology teacher.
Bouton was able to capture a group of humpback whales feeding very close to shore.
"All of these thousands of pelicans and gulls would get up from diving and often that meant there was meant a big massive bait fish and the whales would come up in the mass," says Bouton.
Bouton was able to snap as many as 100 pictures, but now some of these photos are being questioned.
"I've had a couple of guys say there's no such thing, this couldn't really happen and in each case that I've seen somebody do that I've had people say that's my dad in the kayak, or that's me in the peach colored whatever or whatever it might be," says Bouton.
Bouton says the pictures are 100 percent real and is even getting offers from people who want to buy them.
