LOS ANGELES- Comedian Phyllis Diller has died at the age of 95. Known for her self-deprecating humor, and unmistakable laugh, Diller built a singular career that spanned more than 50 years and inspired generations of funny ladies after her.

Born Phyllis Driver in 1917 in Ohio, she married Sherwood Diller when she was 22 and had six children, one died as an infant. It wasn't until she was in her 30's and had to support her family that she  tried her hand at comedy.

Known for her wild hair and outrageous clothes, Diller created the persona of an eccentric housewife who made jokes about her fictional husband, "fang".
