GROVER BEACH - The San Luis Obispo County Grand Jury is pushing the county and local cities to take action against mobile medical marijuana dispensaries.
The Grand Jury says while medical marijuana is technically legal in California, the regulation of how the marijuana is dispensed in San Luis Obispo County is subjective and inconsistent.
In its report, "Out of Sight, Out of Mind - Medical Marijuana in San Luis Obispo County", the Grand Jury points out the county has an ordinance governing storefront medical marijuana dispensaries but notes county supervisors are repeatedly rejecting any applications for dispensaries.
The Grand Jury says that has led to unregulated medical marijuana "delivery" services that are active in local cities and the county.
The Grand Jury says it's a growing "gray market" that local governments, including the City of Grover Beach, are ignoring.
"We've looked at the Grand Jury report, we understand what they are saying", says Grover Beach City Councilman Bill Nicholls, "but we don't see a problem with mobile marijuana in Grover Beach at this time, if it becomes a problem we certainly will take action."
Like other cities in San Luis Obispo County, Grover Beach has an ordinance prohibiting storefront medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.
The Grand Jury is requesting responses to its report from Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Morro Bay and Atascadero as well as the county.
