ARROYO GRANDE, Calif.- Winemakers at Laetitia Vineyard and Winery are preparing for a busy day Thursday, as wine grape harvest begins.
Starting at 8:00 a.m., winemakers will begin crushing the grapes, which is not only the first step in the process, but starts the busiest time of the year for a winery. Generally, August and September is the prime time when harvesting begins. Central Coast News spoke with one winemaker who says the summer weather we've been having, has helped with the harvest season.
"We will bring in two tons tomorrow and we're going to test the juice from that to see how it's looking, if it's ready, if that block is ready then Friday we will start bringing it in, we've got about 37 tons to come out of that block," says David Hickey, a sparkling winemaker.
Typically sparkling wines are harvested first, followed by white wine grapes.
