SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Hundreds of community members who are concerned about cuts to public education and public safety, participated in a rally in support of Proposition 30 and against Proposition 32.
Proposition 30 would raise taxes for the wealthy to give more money to schools and Proposition 32 limits special interest money for political campaigns that come from the union and corporation payrolls. Many participants came out to support Proposition 30 because of budget cuts to schools.
"That will be decreasing the amount of money used to staff teachers, to staff supporting staff, counselors, programming, everything," says Erica Reyes, Lucia Mar Unified School District.
"Since there's so many budget cuts going around Santa Maria, its affecting everybody, all the schools that are in the area," says Reinard Bermudez, a senior at Pioneer Valley High School.
The rally took place at Santa Maria High School on the steps of Ethel Pope Auditorium.
