CAMBRIA, Calif- What began as a missing persons case, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office is now calling a homicide.
The search began Sunday morning and by around 4:45pm, 20-year-old Tyler Hanks' body was found. Tyler Hanks lived in a house with 5 roommates, in a neighborhood Cambrian's called quiet, until this homicide. "It's really calm, nothing ever happens here, this is pretty much the first I've ever heard of something like this happening," says Antonio Leonardo, the victims neighbor.
The body was found in a nearby area, a couple blocks from Hanks' home. Monday, sheriff investigators and search and rescue crews were actively looking for evidence.
A man who lived with Hanks is in custody, but the sheriff's office won't say if or how he's related to the murder. "He is in custody on a parole violation," says Tony Cipolla, the Sheriff's Office Spokesperson.
A community member said Hanks lived with his brother and that they both used drugs and would fight frequently. Sheriff's are saying this incident was not a random occurrence. The sheriff's office won't comment on the relationship of all five roommates or if his brother is the one in custody at this time. The identity of the person who called in the missing person's report has yet to be released.
