SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Dozens of Latino students came to a workshop at Allan Hancock College Tuesday to find out how the Dream Act works as well as how to apply for the Deferred Action Program.
Both of the programs help Latino students prepare for the workforce. The Deferred Action Program helps young people apply for jobs by giving qualified students work permits.
"A lot of this information can be useful because then we can seek a higher education by the money we make instead of a lot of people having to suffer hour by hour working, mainly in the fields, maybe they can actually get a job," says Pedro Navarrete, a college student.
Several local nonprofit organizations were also on-hand to help students and their families with the application process.
