Cal Poly Student Dies After Skateboard Accident in San Luis Obispo

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif-According to hospital officials the 22-year-old Cal Poly student who was in a skateboard accident on Wednesday afternoon has died.  

San Luis Obispo Police and Fire responded to the accident around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Mill and Grove. 

Witnesses said the skateboarder was riding his skateboard southbound on Mill very fast and did not stop at the stop sign.  The skateboarder collided with the door of a truck. 

Officials said he was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital.

The 43-year-old driver of the truck was injured on his face and was also transported to the same hospital. 

The 22 year old Cal Poly student has been identified as Jacob Van Staaveren.
