ARROYO GRANDE, Calif- A man was engulfed in flames Monday afternoon near Arroyo Grande Village. People who were there say it looked like a man in a stunt scene and that he was so badly burned it looked like his clothes were melting off.
A witness told Arroyo Grande Police he smelt gasoline on the man in a nearby public restroom. Shortly after he saw him on fire. Craig Cornett saw the whole thing as well. "His hat was on fire, his shirt was on fire, everything was on fire. It did not look real." Cornett says the man was standing on a bridge then made his way to a nearby tree. "About that time everybody started yelling for him to get down and roll and finally another gentlemen ran over and took his shirt off and began trying to put him out."
When Arroyo Grande Police and 5 Cities Fire arrived, the fire on the man was put out. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the area below the bridge which also caught fire. Police says the man has severe burns on most his body and will be airlifted to Fresno Burn Center for his injuries.
