Man Dies After Lighting Himself On Fire Near Historic Bridge in Arroyo Grande

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif- A man who set himself on fire Monday at the Swinging Bridge has died, said police.

A witness told police that they smelled gasoline coming from the bathroom. Then he saw a man engulfed in flames run across the Swinging Bridge and collapse near a tree.

Several witnesses were able to put the fire out, but the man was badly injured and taken to the Grossman Burn Center at the Sherman Oaks Hospital for treatment. Police said that the man died the next day.

Based on evidence at the scene, police said the man was trying to commit suicide.
