PASO ROBLES, Calif --San Luis Obispo County Animal Services seized a monkey after they said it severely bit a woman in the thumb and upper arm. The woman was keeping the monkey in a small cage and feeding it Frosted Flakes and other junk food, said officials.
Now, the monkey is behind bars and under quarantine at a zoo and State Department of Fish and Game wardens are still deciding whether or not to press charges against its owner. "These animals are wild animals and they're going to act like wild animals," says Zoo To You Director David Jackson. Especially biting, which according to the Department of Fish and Game, a Javan Macaque monkey named "Jenna" did.
After Jenna bit the woman on her arm and thumb, Fish and Game Officials said she waited several days to even report the bite and get treatment. When animal services responded they found Jenna living in a small kennel. She is now being housed at Zoo To You under quarantine where she is being well cared for and properly fed.
"You look at monkey like this and you think cute. But you find out very quickly and I've seen it over and over again. That it's not cute. It ends up being a very bad situation for the owners and the public and for the environment and it just never ever works," says Jackson.
Right now, Zoo To You houses 16 monkeys they have retrieved from illegal pet situations.
