SAN JOSE, Calif. - Amazon will start charging sales tax in California starting September 15 after months of pressure from California lawmakers.
Amazon argued it did not have to collect sales tax because it did not have a physical presence in California.
Lawmakers pointed out that Lab 126, a subsidiary that's developing the new Kindle, is in Cupertino.
There is also a million square foot distribution center in Patterson.
Amazon is expected to generate about $150 million in sales tax revenue the first year.
