ATASCADERO, Calif. - A fire broke out at a single story home in Atascadero, spreading fire to nearby vegetation.
24 firefighters were called out to the fire around 2:06pm, located at a residence on the 4000 block of Nogales in Atascadero. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the garage with fire burning through the roof and spreading into the attic.
The fire also spread to two nearby pine trees. The heat from the flames melted the home's gas meter, which caused gas to start flowing. Eventually, power crews were able were able to stop the leak.
It took firefighters about an hour to contain the fire. Two firefighters were injured - one twisted his ankle and the other suffered from heat exhaustion. They are both expected to be okay. The cause of the fire was a battery charger left on in the garage.
