LOMPOC, Calif.- A project to build a new children's library in Lompoc is on hold after the city says there is just not enough money to go forward.
It was a decade-long dream for late former Mayor Charlotte Benton to open a children's library where she used to live on the 200 block of South I Street in Lompoc. Although, a long-time in the making, the funding for Charlotte's Web Library has come to a standstill. Over one million dollars was slated for the project, but that money has disappeared.
"The RDA was withdrawn from the city. This project lost one million dollars, now were down to approximately $800,000 into the project. We could possibly put a modular building up or get this mobile van that would be placed here and continue Charlotte's dream," says Bob Lingl, Lompoc City Council Member.
The fate of the project could be decided on September 13th where the Library Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting.
