SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A California Department of Education work force is proposing sweeping changes in the way teachers are recruited, trained, evaluated, and developed.
The group's findings were unveiled at a news conference today.
Task force co-chair and Stanford Education Professor Linda Darling Hammond says the report has been a long time coming.
She says, "it's the first time in a generation that we've really taken stock of what it will take to produce a world-class teaching force. We've just adopted world-class standards for kids, the common core state standards."
Some of the proposals include new programs to help teachers early in their careers as well as linking professional learning expectations to the certification renewal process.
