Robert Cullen, King City's City Council

Party/Affiliation: n/a
Current Job: Small Business Owner - Financial and Insurance Services

Top 3 Priorities if Elected:

CONTINUE TO OPERATE ON A LEAN BUDGET

I've served on the City Council for 4 years, with the past 2 as Mayor. As the city's revenue went down we engaged in the difficult process of reducing expenditures. I'm proud of the budget we're currently operating on. It's balanced, while allowing us to offer the basic and necessary services for our citizens. If elected I plan on continuing to monitor the budget in a way that sets up King City for success in the future as the economy improves. Specifically, I want to build up a reserve to put the city in a better fiscal position.

WORK TO ATTRACT BUSINESSES/ JOBS TO KING CITY

It's important that we continue to work toward the goal of attracting new businesses, and thus jobs, to King City. We have a lot to offer, including a good job pool, good access to Northern and Southern California, affordable housing, economic benefits through the Salinas Valley Enterprise Zone, and more. To that end I plan on continuing to review and look at potential revisions to our development impact fees. I plan on continuing to work with the Chamber of Commerce so that they are effectively marketing King City as a good place to do
business. And I plan on meeting with potential developers so that they understand
the benefits of doing business in King City.

WORK WITH OTHER SOUTH COUNTY CITIES TO EXPLORE POTENTIAL PARTNERSHIPS

We have recently begun an endeavor with the 4 South County Cities to see if there are areas upon which we can collaborate. Collaboration could possibly mean cost savings. I am willing and interested in exploring possibilities that lead to savings while maintaining necessary safety and service levels.
