Top 3 Priorities if Elected:

JOBS FOR SEASIDE RESIDENTS

I believe it is essential that job opportunities become more available for Seaside residents. I would accomplish that through being pro-active in working with the Seaside business community. Seaside businesses need attention by city government to make it simpler to do business in Seaside thus becoming more effective in creating business that results in creating more jobs. In my campaign walking and listening in the business community there is a lack of trust in city government and local city government lacks awareness of the business community concerns. I would schedule area meetings of the local businesses and listen to concerns and do my utmost to create a strong sense of trust through acting upon concerns that are doable. I believe many business concerns can be solved. I strongly believe when there is trust and cooperation there is an increase in effort and morale, therefore potentially more business and more jobs. I would create a forum for large businesses, developers and car dealership owners that would allow opportunites to listen. In talking to developers and business owners I have learned Seaside is not business friendly. I would act upon their suggestion if possible and create a relationship that promotes business via incentives when feasible, positive awareness and acting upon their concerns and an overall greater promotion of Seaside as a great place to do business. I would research the business community revenues from the most active businesses and visit them at their stores and acknowledge them at Council meetings for their employing people and bringing revenue to Seaside. I believe respect and acknowledgement goes a long way with business morale, communication and successful businesses.

RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH, SENIORS, AND FAMILIES

Recreation programs have been dramatically cut and staff currently is down to one full time person. My knowledge and experience is with city government and recreation. I am very aware that programs that were cut cost a very minimal amount of money or would have paid for themselves totally. I would donate my city stipend to the City Tree Lighting Ceremony. This event can cost minimum dollars and create a sense of hope and family for the Community. The donation of my stipend would have no financial impact on the City of Seaside. I would raise funds for a 5th week of "Sunday Blues." As the organizer for this program, I am acutely aware that this series brings revenue to the City of Seaside, creates positive public relations and a genuine sense of community.

DECREASE CRIME AND GANG VIOLENCE

I believe a stronger and more positive community mind-set, improved recreation opportunities and much needed employment for Seaside residents helps in lowering the number of gang violence incidents. This was responded to in #1 and #2 of this questionnaire. I believe greater support of the community policing and the Seaside Police Athletic League would be another alternative to lowering gang violence. I would personally become more involved in Seaside PAL as a volunteer towards this goal. Finally, I believe more trust in our Seaside Police Officers and more honest communication would help with morale therefore improving the effort by everyone sharing this concern of increased gang violence. Many would think my goals are not attainable by only one councilperson. I know I have made important changes and achieved necessary projects while working for the City of Seaside. I succeeded because I promoted and implemented working as a team to create a vision that was effective and productive for the Seaside community. I have accomplished a great deal and been recognized often for being pro-active and never saying, "it can not be done." I maintain a "can do, " attitude that has made a positive impact on the community. I was the founder of the Seaside Junior Chamber of Commerce, Co-founder of the Seaside Dolphins, creator of Sunday Blues in the Park, Organizer of the Seaside Parade of Champions, International Extrvaganza, 1996 Olympic Torch Festival, Amgen Tour of California Activities Coordinator and Program Coordinator for countless events and programs. I have receieved awards from the Chamber of Commerce, Mayors, Supervisors, State Assemblymen and Congressmen for my efforts in developing and providing outstanding services to the community of Seaside.
