SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The League of Women Voters held a candidate forum in Santa Maria Wednesday night.
It was held at the Betteravia Government Center, where the public could interact with their local representatives. Four of the Santa Maria candidates for mayor were there, as well as three of the candidates for city council.
"I think the public sometimes...they think of the elections as who's going to be president, " said Vice President of the Santa Maria Valley League of Women Voters. "But really, the most important votes you cast are the ones for your local representatives." She said they are the most important because they represent the people directly.
The league says it holds one or two forums every election season.
