SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Police Department enforced bicycle safety in the city by enforcing a directed patrol. Motorcycle officers were out in force watching for bicyclists that commit violations such as failing to stop at a red light or a stop sign. Bicyclists who wore headphones were also cited.
During the past year the city of Santa Barbara has experienced an increase in bicycle-involved traffic collisions and the most recent Office of Traffic Safety data has ranked Santa Barbara #3 out of 103 similarly sized cities in the state for bicycle collisions.
