SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Officials say people have reported a weird smell in the southern part of San Luis Obispo County.
The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution District says the smell is due to decaying organic materials from White Lake on the Nipomo Mesa that is currently drying up. As the lake shrinks, organic material from the lake bottoms start to decay, causing the unpleasant smell.
People have reported that it smells like rotten eggs. Officials are not issuing a health advisory, but warn that the pungent smell could still linger.
