84-Year-Old Man Who Hit and Killed Cyclist Sentenced

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The man who hit and killed a cyclist on Highway 1 between Santa Maria and Lompoc in April has been sentenced.

84-year-old Benny Contreras has been sentenced to 3 years of formal probation for vehicular manslaughter.

Contreras will also serve 100 hours of community service and pay restitution to the family of 58-year-old James Hamlin of Santa Maria.

His license has been suspended for 3 years.
