Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Remain Underused

Posted: Updated:

SOLVANG, Calif. - Earlier this year, the city of Solvang introduced electric vehicle charging stations in public lots. They came at almost no cost to the city. Federal government grants paid for the stations and the installation. But the stations are found mostly empty during the week. So is this effort by the Fed and the State to integrate electric charging stations across the country worth it?

Solvang City Manager Brad Vidro says, "There's not that many electric cars out there yet. But I think our anticipation is that in five to ten years, it'll obviously be much bigger."

Vidro also added, "We're not seeing a high volume of use but I think the that the network of stations allow people to see that they can travel up and down California and there is charging stations for them to use."
