SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Family members of the truck driver that led authorities on a high speed pursuit Wednesday are speaking out.
The suspect's brother and father have identified the truck driver as 19-year-old Daniel Lopez. He allegedly lead authorities on a high speed chase through San Luis Obispo, ending on the front lawn at the Santa Maria Police Headquarters, where he jumped out and ran into the lobby and surrendered without anyone getting hurt.
Police say he drove recklessly, going down Highway 101 at speeds of more than 90 miles per hour and running stop signs.
Lopez's brother and his father, who did not want to be identified, said they last saw him this morning at the San Luis Obispo Post Office.
"My brother got desperate and just took off." said Lopez's brother. When asked about why he didn't stop when the CHP tried to pull him over, Lopez said that his brother had lost his memory and tends to lose his memory frequently.
Lopez now faces felony charges, including evading police.
