SANTA BARBARA - A former Santa Barbara City Councilwoman and mayoral candidate is accused of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident and police say she was three times over the legal limit.
Former councilwoman and mayoral candidate Iya Falcone is charged with misdemeanor DUI.
Santa Barbara police say Falcone was at a popular restaurant Wednesday morning on Cliff Drive on the Mesa area of Santa Barbara where she allegedly consumed alcohol.
Police say when she was leaving the parking lot across the street sometime after 10am she hit another parked car and then left the area without leaving her personal and insurance information.
Police say someone saw Falcone walk away from the scene of the accident and called 911.
Police say she was found by officers walking down Cliff Drive and was evaluated for DUI and then arrested.
"After she was arrested she was transported back to the Santa Barbara Police Department and consented to two breath samples at 12:29pm", says SBPD Spokesperson Sgt. Riley Harwood," the breath samples registered her BAC to be .24 and .23.
BAC stands for Blood Alcohol Content and .24 would be three times over the legal limit of .08 in California.
Police say because this was a misdemeanor DUI offense, noone was hurt and that Falcone was cooperative, she was given a citation and told to report back to the SBPD headquarters for formal booking within the next few weeks.
Police say Falcone does not have prior DUI convictions.
