Update: Driver Identified, Man Dies After His SUV Rolls Off A Hill

Posted: Updated:

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif.- San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who died after his SUV toppled down a hill last Thursday evening as 63-year-old Laurence Jones of Arroyo Grande.

Just after 7:00pm on September 20th, a group of hunters were driving on Lopez Drive when they discovered a rolled over SUV and Jones lying next to it. CHP says Jones was driving on a private road by himself.

"All we know is that he was trying to drive at a very steep portion of the property back here and the vehicle just couldn't hold its traction on the hill and rolled over, rolled over many times before finally coming to a rest with the party ejected outside," says Officer Evan Beaver, California Highway Patrol.

California Highway Patrol tells Central Coast News they do not suspect alcohol played a factor.
