Top 3 Priorities if Elected:
REDUCE CLASS SIZE AT ALL LEVELS K-8
REINSTATE SCHOOL LIBRARY PROGRAMS, MUSIC PROGRAMS, AND AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAMS
UPDATE TECHNOLOGY THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT
In order to implement these priorities, funding sources must be in place. I am serving on the school board's restoration committee which will use stakeholders' input to prioritize our issues as funding becomes available. I will be proactive in reforming the funding model for public schools, look for grant writing possibilities, and provide honest information to taxpayers about the need to fund a world-class public education system for California's students. As a board member, I will carefully evaluate all budget issues and choose those which best serve our students.
In the past few years, we have experienced a 30% drop in funding from state sources and we have made drastic cuts, starting with our administrative positions. We have cut until there is nothing left to cut! I am not pleased with many of the reductions we have made, but am relieved that we have been able to rescue our district from possible state-takeover and have kept ourselves out of bankruptcy.
