CAMBRIA, Calif. - Officials rescued three fisherman from a sinking ship near Cambria yesterday. The Coast Guard and the Air National Guard were able to make the rescue about 125 nautical miles southwest of Point Piedros Blancas.
A crew member from a commercial fishing boat called "Allison C" reported that the vessel was sinking because there was a hole at the bottom of it that they couldn't fix.
The Coast Guard then was able to make an Urgent Marine Center Broadcast. They then deployed an aircraft from Sacramento, and dropped three pumps, a life raft, and held radios to the ship.
A helicopter crew also helped from the Air National Guard. They were able to locate and safely bring the fisherman to safety from the life raft. The fishermen were treated by paramedics, then taken to the hospital. No injuries were reported.
