MORRO BAY, Calif. - The California Fish and Game Commission held a forum in Sacramento on Monday about seismic testing near the Diablo Canyon Power Plant.
The issue has been a long battle, pitting environmentalists and commercial fishermen against PG&E. The power company wants to have seismic studies in Morro Bay to ensure the safety of the power plant.
The study will require high-decibel sound waves to be emitted underneath the water off the coast. Environmentalists are concerned it might affect marine life, especially with the surprising amount of humpback whales close to the area this year. PG&E officials say they will do their best to make sure no marine life is affected
