Carpinteria City Councilman Stepping Down

CARPINTERIA, Calif. - Carpinteria City Councilman Joe Armendariz turned in his resignation Monday night after 8 years of service.

He was charged with driving under the influence after crashing his car on Highway 101 last year north of Padaro Lane.

It was his second DUI arrest within 5 years.

Police say at the time he was driving with a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Armendariz pleaded no contest earlier this year and his license was suspended for a year.
