Top 3 Priorities if Elected:
CREATE A BALANCED BUDGET, BUILD OUR RESERVES, AND RESTORE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY TO CAPITOLA
Capitola has been fighting off one calamity after another including the Rispin fiasco, Rent Control, and the recession to name a few. To top it all, a broken pipe flooded the city with water. It took all the reserve funds the city had to make the necessary repairs, with no insurance reimbursement in sight. It's time for a brighter day for Capitola. It's time for new, fresh ideas and a consistent approach to restoring this quaint little city to its glory. We need to start with balancing our budget, putting revenue back into our reserves, and repairing our roads. I'm supporting measure "O" to jump start this process. This Capitola 1/4 % sale tax increase will channel revenue into the General fund. I will be vigilant and committed to recommending that those funds be used wisely.
PRODUCE A PARKING SOLUTION FOR CAPITOLA VILLAGE
The parking dilemma in Capitola has been ongoing for years. As a result of the broken pipe and tragic flood that followed, the city finally has control of the Lower Pacific Cove land for uses other than habitation. Numerous committees, meetings, and consultants have all recommended parking solutions. It's time to act. The conversion of that space to a temporary parking lot will allow us to generate revenue for the city, while we evaluate the impact of adding 230 additional parking spaces in the village. This will meet our Coastal Commission obligations and allow further development in village. This opens the door for continued village hotel discussion, and serious discussion about the permanent parking solution for the village. The lower parking lot will also serve as the shuttle bus stop for the village, and provide a much needed bathroom in that location.
COMPLETE OLD PROJECTS: PLAN FOR, DESIGN AND DELIVER NEW ENHANCEMENT FACILITIES FOR OUR CITIZENS
It's time to finally complete the Rispin Mansion
property. Once the state finally determines that it is our property, we need to
make the necessary safety improvements, required ADA installations, and open it
to the public as a park or other income producing venue.
We need to focus on enhancing the experience of Capitola
for its citizens with additional facilities.
Let's work to create space for a dog park and a skate
park. We need to closely monitor and become involved with the progress of a new
library in Capitola.
Let's encourage and support property owners in the
village to commit to an appropriate village Hotel that will revitalize that
area. I would like to consider relocating the museum to a place where we can
properly display and showcase the abundant history of this town.
