Former Lompoc Prison Inmate Linked to Controversial Film Arrested

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The former Lompoc prisoner linked to the anti-Muslim film that sparked protests in more than 20 countries has been arrested.

Nakoula Besseley Nakoula, is an Egyptian immigrant and the alleged filmmaker of "Innocence of Muslims." Nakoula was arrested in Los Angeles for violating terms of his probation including being on the Internet as well as posting content under an alias rather than his own name.

According to the website The Smoking Gun, as well as other press reports, Nakoula spent nearly two years at the Lompoc Federal Prison for bank fraud where he also wrote the screenplay for the controversial movie that's been released online.

Nakoula was released from federal custody last summer right before production began on the film.
