Atascadero Frustration With Traffic Way Overpass Construction

Posted: Updated:
(Atascadero CA) The City of Atascadero has been urging Caltrans to finalize the construction under the Traffic Way overpass at Highway 101.

Recent construction has included removal of sidewalks that were previously constructed, and then determined not to meet Federal ADA Accessibility requirements. The project is part of Caltrans' Highway 101 Improvement Project being constructed by Papich Construction of Arroyo Grande.

Atascadero Public Works Director Russ Thompson said "The City has been receiving numerous complaints on the project from frustrated residents, and we've been doing what we can to encourage Caltrans and their contractor to expedite the completion of the work. Unfortunately it's out of our direct control and we're relying on Papich to get their work done sooner than later. We're frustrated too on the length of time it's taking to complete the work".

The Traffic Way undercrossing is a heavily traveled pedestrian and bicycle corridor to the High School and west side of town. Detours continue to be in place, and the public is cautioned to be careful while walking or riding in the construction zone.

Comments on construction traffic impacts can be e-mailed to info-D5@dot.ca.gov.
