Santa Margarita -- Sunset Savor the Central Coast is underway. The four day event in Santa Margarita showcases Central Coast food and wine. Organizers expect 10-thousand people to attend Savor this year at Santa Margarita Ranch. it will bring in about 3-million dollars to the local economy.
One of the highlights this year is this Sunset Garden and Backyard Farm. It's being installed by Sage Ecological Landscape in Los Osos and it's one of the many educational features at the event.
Grant Sukchindasathien with Sage Ecological Landscape says, "It's all functional and the focus is around edible gardening and how you can reuse materials and do everything in an ecological way." The backyard farm has examples of edible landscape with everything from growing your own salad to even a pie garden. Local grower Ralph Johnson converted horse troughs donated by Farm Supply into backyard planters. After the event the planters will be given to local elementary schools.
Savor is presenting 38 local chefs, some visiting celebrity chefs, and 200 central coast wineries will be represented. Also this year a special seminar on Santa Maria style barbecue.
