Old Orcutt Street Painting and Art Festival

Posted: Updated:

Orcutt  -- A local non profit organization is holding an art festival this weekend to raise awareness about the importance of the arts in education. The Orcutt Children's Arts Foundation is putting on the first Old Orcutt Street Painting and Art Festival tomorrow.  Organizers want to illustrate the importance of the arts in local schools  and also raise money to support art education.

Hannah Rubalcava, Executive Director of the Foundation says, "There are so many people who have basic needs things like the arts unfortunately  kind of get pushed to the bottom of the list so we are hoping by providing opportunities for people to participate in the arts we will be able to generate income to keep arts in the schools."

The foundation donates about 70-thousand dollars a year to ten Orcutt schools to pay for art programs.  The money comes from grants, but more now than ever the foundation is relying on fundraisers like this chalk art festival. Professional artists from around the state and right here on the Central Coast will be creating sidewalk masterpieces  and children of all ages will have a chance to claim a sidewalk square to show off their skills as well. The festival is from 10 AM to 6 PM Saturday in Old Town Orcutt. The event features chalk art, barbecue and live music.
