CAMBRIA, Calif.- The city of Cambria is known for its quaint atmosphere, where kids grow up and families retire but the talk of the town has changed after the community was alerted to a family murder.
22-year-old Brandon Henslee has been charged for the murder of his half-brother, 20-year-old Tyler Hanks. As of Sunday evening, the motive remains a mystery.
"It's just calm and quiet here most of the time," says Yvonne Canter, a Cambria resident.
Calm and quiet is how neighbors describe the area where Henslee and Hanks lived. Back in August, Hanks' body was found in a wooded area in Cambria after he went missing from this home on the 400 block of Leighton Street.
"Since that time, we've conducted a thorough investigation of the case and determined that Mr. Henslee is responsible for the homicide," says Sheriff Ian Parkinson, San Luis Obispo County.
Central Coast News went to the Hank's family home to see if anyone had anything to say and found Hank's stepfather working outside who refused to speak with us.
"It's a complete shock, you think of that happening in Los Angeles, San Francisco but you don't think of Cambria and the Pines," says Patrick Peters, a Cambria resident.
While murders in Cambria may be unusual, some neighbors are hopeful they won't have to hear about something like this happening anytime soon.
"I'm not worried for my own safety because I know it was just something family related," says Canter.
Henslee is due in court later this week.
